New year resolutions of a working woman

New year is around the corner. So whats your resolution for this new year ? Here is my list of things that I need to work upon this year.

1. Make your own health a priority

As working women, we are always trying to juggle too many tasks at a time and tend to keep our own health on less priority. Many of us often skip the most important meal of the day – breakfast. Avoid junk and go for healthier alternatives. Have a routine health checkup done at least once a year.
In this new year, lets make sure we will take care of our health and make it our topmost priority.

2. Exercise

Regular exercise is very important to remain healthy. And when we need to handle so many important tasks everyday, its important to have a healthy mind and body. A healthy mind lives in a healthy body. Gym, yoga, aerobics, dancing – whatever works for you. Try to take out half an hour for yourself and exercise regularly. You can start by just taking a walk in the garden.

3. Become more organized

Every working woman would agree. Its all about time management and about being organized. It doesn’t matter how much time you have on your hands if you can’t manage it properly – you’ll just spend most of the day running around aimlessly. There is so much to do in a day. Take help from the various online apps and organize your errands.

4. Because imperfect is perfect !

It is absolutely ok to do mistakes. We all do. Its only human. So, next time the boss yells at you for something silly or your partner is upset because he could not find his socks in place. Or , maybe your kid went to school without his homework done. Relax.Once in a while, its all ok. You don’t have to be perfect everytime. Just try not to make it a habit though.

5. Learn to say NO

Its not important that you do everything. Learn to say no to things you cannot manage – at work and at home. Have realistic expectations from yourself and set realistic expectations as well.
Also, its very important to stop trying to do everything by yourself and asking for help whenever required. Most often than not, our partners, family members, colleagues will be more than ready to help. Its just that they do not know what to do to help. So, reach out and ask for help when you need it.

6. Clean house need not be happy house

Stop over-stressing yourself on cleanliness. Especially if you have young children. A little mess will not make the world come crashing down upon you. And nobody is going to hold your neck for it either.
And again, even when cleaning learn to involve your children. Initially, they will end up creating even more mess than actually cleaning it. But relax and understand that they will eventually get it and it will help you and your children in the long run.

7. Learn a self-defence technique

Well, we all know the state of affairs in the world today. Its very important for women going out everyday (often alone) to learn some self-defence techniques. Teach it to your daughter as well.

8. Reduce Stress

Research has shown that stress is one of the biggest killers out there, and it can have a very destructive effect on your relationships as well as your health. It may be an unavoidable side effect of our hectic modern lifestyles, but it can be effectively managed with the help of useful, unconventional and easy to practice tricks for stress management.

9. Meet new people

Our lives have become so monotonous. Weekdays are generally spent at work and weekends in doing all pending household chores and planning for the week ahead. We usually have the same set of people around us in office and at home. Meeting someone new and opening to new ideas can be very refreshing.
Join some group of maybe people with same hobby, or a volunteer group or any other such group where you have opportunities to meet new people. Taking out time once in a month is not asking for too much.

10. Catch up with old friends

Just pick up that phone and call someone you haven’t spoken to for years. Even better if you can meet in person.Your school and college friends are the ones that know you from a time when you were a nobody. You can be your most natural self in front of them. You will be amazed to see how merely talking to an old friend reduces the stress in your life.

11. Learn to be happier with your life

Remember this is the only life we have. Learn to appreciate and count your blessings. Happiness is usually found in the smallest of things. A new luxurious car can sometimes not give you as much happiness as a hand-made card by your 4 year old.

12. Support other women

And most importantly, stop judging. And whenever you can, support other women. We are all working really hard to achieve our dreams. Stop judging others. And start supporting. Because when women support each other, incredible things happen !
